More than a lipstick

Close your eyes. WAIT, maybe you should probably finish reading this paragraph before you close your eyes. Then take a moment and think about a woman that you love and admire. When you picture her in your mind, what do you see? Do you see her belt or shoes? Probably not, even though we want to think everyone notices our amazing shoe collection. Most likely you see her face. Your face is what people remember about you. Some of us are better at remembering the names that go along with the faces, but that’s a whole other ball of wax. Your face is your first impression to the world. Good or bad, first impressions make an impact and others make decisions

about us before we ever speak a word.

Your hair and face are the accessories that you have to work with every day; your first impression to the world and what most people remember about you. They only remember your clothes for a second. So when you are putting your wardrobe together, you should literally put your money where your mouth is. And the great thing about lip gloss is that it fits on fat days. It doesn’t matter how “skinny minny” (yes, that’s a southern term) you are, every woman in America has at least 3 different sizes of clothes in her closet!

Do you get overwhelmed or confused by the ever changing tips & trends on the “how tos” of makeup? The good news is there are no rules to cosmetics. If it makes you feel fabulous, rock it! Lipstick is so much more than lipstick. The right shade can change your mood & your confidence. Do you want to feel playful…powerful…sexy? When you are confident that you look fabulous, your entire day will be fabulous. Think about how you walk when your panties & bra match. No one else sees it or even knows, but you feel better that day and probably walk a little taller.

What is the one feature on your face that you love? Focus on what you love about your look and play it up instead of trying to cover the things you don’t like. That was a new thought for you, wasn’t it? I always wanted to be tall & tan. Apparently, God thought I should be “fun sized” and lily white. It’s all good because this is exactly how I’m supposed to look. So I might as well work with what I have instead of wasting time & energy on what I don’t have. I will never be mistaken for a Kardashian.

How do you go about finding the elusive perfect shade? Try it on! I would love to tell you that you can hold makeup up to you and tell how it would look, but that would be a lie. Where do you test colors? Please don’t let me see you in the store trying colors on your hand or arm. Seriously, your hands and arms are not the same color as your face. Actually, your hands are not even the same color as each other. One is usually a little darker because you drive with one more than the other. FYI, the inside of your forearm isn’t the same color as anything. The only part of your body that is the same color as your face is your face.

So have some fun, try a ton of colors. If you don’t like it, wipe it off and try the next one. This can be fun, especially if you can laugh at yourself. It can be just as helpful to know what doesn’t work as it is to know what does work. If you would like to know where to start, pick up the latest magazines and find the pictures of women that have your hair color, eye color and skin tone. What colors are they wearing? If it looks great on someone that looks like you, it is probably going to look great on you.
